BLUE NOTE-INSPIRED BEBOP, BURNERS AND BALLADS FROM A HARD-SWINGING TENOR MAN.
Fraser Smith - tenor sax
Ozzy Duzenli - guitar
Simon Read - bass
Fraser Smith is a hard-swinging tenor man with a sound reminiscent of the golden ages of jazz, from 40s Kansas City through 60s New York. With an almost constant concert schedule and two recordings under his belt, he's already confirmed himself as one of the most compelling tenor saxophonists currently working in British jazz.
Instantly recognisable through his signature powerful approach and gritty sound, Smith combines the force and immediacy of the great rhythm and blues players with the detailed melodic language of bebop and hard bop. Illinois Jacquet is a defining influence, with Lester Young, Sonny Stitt, Wardell Gray and David "Fathead" Newman also important reference points.
"A tenor it isn't tough to like." The Times
"On stage, the musicianship is off the scale." The Guardian
