Jazz in Brockley #7 - Giulia Marro

Rising star of the UK jazz scene, clarinet player and vocalist Giulia Marro will be releasing her fully original debut album in March 2025.

The Giulia Marro Quartet includes some of the UK’s best rhythm section players - Honey Boulton, Tom Ward and Ben Love. Bringing swing to the forefront, this band mainly plays original music with a mix of their favourite standards/songbook tunes.

Having studied under jazz heavy weights at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and Royal Conservatoire the Hague,Giulia’s playing is steeped in tradition. Inspired by the swing era and the composers of this time, Giulia’s original music has reflections of Barney Bigard and Jimmy Giuffre.

Giulia has led bands across the UK in popular jazz venues and captivates audiences with her warm, vibrato filled clarinet playing, inspired by clarinet greats Barney Bigard and Artie Shaw. Giulia is also a vocalist and takes inspiration from the likes of Anita O’Day, Carmen McRae and many more.

Acoustic Anarchy - Live Music - Brockley Max Special

Saturday 7th June sees an extended Acoustic Anarchy, featuring Richard Anderson, who is a singer songwriter originally from Scotland but now London based. Richard has played widely and has a selection of well crafted songs, a powerful voice and intricate guitar playing.

Support comes from Mariyka, who has brought her emotionally intelligent songs to WiB before, with songs about the hurt and the casual cruelties of everyday life, responding with care and compassion.

Joining us for the first time is Ukulele maestro Ben Jones,  will entertain with.versions of songs you will know played enthusiastically with far more heft than a small 4 stringed Hawaiian instrument has any right to produce.

Regular host Martin Howard completes the bill. Expect songs about dinosaurs and fictional pubs.

Doors at 6.30, music from 7.

Suggested £5 donation entry, which all goes to the artists! No-one turned away for lack of funds

The Daniel Birchall Bottle Share #2

Our homebrew club recently came into an impressive bounty of sharing bottles from a poor soul who couldn't ship them across the water to his new home.
We wanted to share the spoils with as many people as possible so it was decided to set up a few special bottle shares throughout the year.
We'll be sharing six extra special bottles and encourage you to bring a bottle along yourselves to share with the group.
All welcome!
